Canal Houses
Canal Houses
Canal Houses invites players to step into the charming canals of Amsterdam where the goal is to build the most beautiful street of canal houses. In this light hand drafting game, each player works with a hand of cards that represent parts of a building. From the first turn the atmosphere feels like arranging colourful facades by the water as everyone chooses building pieces at the same time and passes cards around the table.
On each turn players simultaneously select one card from their hand to add to their growing set of houses. These cards include bases, floors, and roofs and each house must start with a base at the bottom, any number of floors in the middle, and finish with a roof on top. After playing a card, players pass the remaining cards to the next player and then draw a new card of a chosen type so that they always have four cards at the start of the next turn.
The choices players make matter because different card types and placement orders influence how points are scored at the end of the game. Store fronts and roof conditions score when their specific requirements are met and additional points come from matching building features such as cats, flowerpots, or colours across a street. Clever placement and timing of card plays can lead to satisfying scoring combinations. Players must think ahead about how to stack their buildings while keeping an eye on what their opponents are drafting.
With support for two to five players and a playtime of about twenty minutes, Canal Houses is ideal for quick game nights or casual play sessions with family and friends. It feels relaxed yet strategic with each round offering new architectural choices.
