ILIAD
ILIAD
Part of Allplay's Mythos Collection, Iliad delivers a thoughtful and highly interactive duel where every placement matters and every decision can influence the fate of heroes and gods alike.
The Trojan War rages across the ancient world as two legendary heroes compete for glory. Hector fights for Troy while Achilles leads the Greeks, each seeking the favour of the gods in a struggle that will determine whose name is remembered in the Iliad.
Iliad is a two-player tile placement strategy game from acclaimed designer Reiner Knizia. As the conflict unfolds, players place tiles onto a shared grid, carefully building lines of strength while pursuing divine favour and valuable points. Every decision influences the balance of power, creating a tense contest where timing and positioning are critical.
On each turn, a player chooses one of two tiles from their hand and places it adjacent to an opponent's tile already on the board. Both players have identical collections of tiles, including values ranging from one to five and a special Dolos tile that copies the strength of adjacent opposing tiles. Although the available pieces are symmetrical, the opportunities created by the evolving board state are anything but predictable.
Many tiles also offer abilities that can be activated when placed. These powers provide opportunities to influence the battlefield, alter scoring opportunities, and shift momentum at crucial moments. Knowing when to commit a valuable tile and when to hold it back becomes one of the game's central challenges.
Whenever a row or column is completed, the player with the highest total strength in that line claims first choice of the success tokens located at either end. These tokens form the heart of the game's strategic puzzle. Some contribute toward earning the favour of the gods, while others provide points that may prove decisive later. Players must constantly weigh immediate rewards against longer-term objectives.
