In Hummingbirds, players compete to collect the most valuable nectar tokens by sending their hummingbirds to flowers placed above hidden sand timers. Each flower hides a timer, so players cannot simply count down with certainty. Instead, they must rely on memory, instinct and timing as they decide when to return and check whether nectar can be collected.

On your turn, you can claim a flower with one of your hummingbirds, move into a better position, or check a flower where your bird is already waiting. If the sand timer beneath that flower has run out, you collect a nectar token of the matching colour. If you check too soon and the timer is still running, you lose one of your lowest value nectar tokens instead.

That simple risk creates the heart of the game. Waiting longer can make a flower more rewarding, but another player may reach the right moment first. Acting quickly might secure nectar before anyone else, but poor timing can cost you points. The hidden timers turn every decision into a small gamble, with players trying to read the table, remember which flowers were started and judge how much time has really passed.
