Game Night! with itsyourturn.bg

Posted by Amy and Liam - @itsyourturn.bg on 21st Dec 2025

Amy and Liam have the freshest board game collection of anyone I know! Providing their insight and super important spoon rating system to a myriad of hot new games.

I'm super intruiged to get their insight on whats worth playing and how they set up for the perfect game night!

Take it away guys...
--

Hey everyone! It’s such a treat to be taking over the blog today. When the Dan asked us what our "dream" game night looked like, we didn’t even have to think twice. Pull up a chair, grab a slice, and let’s dive into the ultimate tabletop evening.

Let’s start with Amy’s choices!

The Vibe: Pizza & Playlists

For me the food and snacks are an after thought, I’m all about convenience. So give me a Goodfellas thin base Margherita and I’m a happy gal.

To really set the mood, the music is non negotiable. I’m all about immersion, so the playlist has to be perfectly curated to whatever is hitting the table. If we don’t feel like we’re in the middle of a battle or the forest, are we even playing?

The Guest List

I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about who gets a seat at this table. It’s a mix of legends and wildcards. Spoiler: Liam didn’t make the cut (sorry!)

Rodney Smith (Watch It Played)

Honestly? I just need a break from being the rules person. I want Rodney there to give us that buttery smooth tutorial and not worry about missing end game scoring rules. He’s also genuinely a lovely person, I was lucky to meet him during Airecon!

Lincoln Funke (GameNight!)

He is officially the most laid-back human on the planet. If he were any more relaxed, he’d be horizontal. Every table needs that calm energy and I need to find out where he gets his Arkham jerseys from.

Britney Spears

My ultimate guilty pleasure! I have a feeling she’d be a total dark horse, the kind of player who lets you think you’re winning right before she sweeps the board.

The Menu (of Games)

We’re measuring the night in my usual ADHD spoon scale, you know, how much mental energy we’ve got left in the tank (usually none).

The Heavy Hitter (High spoon) - Shackleton Base

Since playing Galactic Cruise, I’ve been on a massive space kick. I’ve been eyeing this one for ages, but it’s definitely a high spoon game at a glance. We’re tackling this first while our brains are fresh. Plus, with Rodney and Lincoln there, I’m definitely off the hook for the teach!

The Palate Cleanser (Low spoon) - Rebirth

After the brain burn of space travel, we’ll move on to Rebirth by Mighty Boards. It’s a low spoon game super satisfying, tactile, and just feels good to play. It’s the perfect way to keep the momentum going without our heads exploding.

The Friendship Fixer (Medium spoon) - Fate of the Fellowship

By the time Rebirth is over, I’ll have probably ruthlessly taken over everyone’s fields, and the vibes might be a little tense. We’ll finish the night with Fate of the Fellowship to rebuild those bridges. It’s a mid spoon title so a bit chunkier, but because it’s cooperative, which makes it much easier to digest as the night winds down.

That’s my perfect lineup! Good food, great teachers, and a pop icon to keep us on our toes.

How about you, Liam?
Now let's hear Liam's choices!
For my ideal game night, I would have four people.
Amy of course (but apparently I'm not invited on hers lol).
Costa Georgiadis (who is the wonderfully enthuiastic host of the tv show Gardening Australia, which I grew up with)
Claudio Sanchez (front man for the band Coheed and Cambria).
The food and drink would have to be pizza and soft drinks, I know - classic and boring but you cant go wrong with a slice in one hand and a meeple in the other. Plus, who wants to faff about with lots of plates and different cooking times?

Music is a tough one!
Given there would be an actual musician present, I couldn't just have Coheed on repeat. I think for the games being played I would have to go with some lo-fi instrumentals of classic rock songs.

The Games

Galactic Cruise (High Spoon)
Cruise ships in space, great colour pallette, big game to get stuck into. I’ll never say no to playing this one!

Pergola (Low Spoon)
For the green thumbs in the group. It’s easy to learn, calming and not too heavy.

Moonshine (Low Spoon)
Who doesn't want to be an anthropomorphic animal bootlegger in prohibition? Roll dice, engine build and make everyone weep as you claim victory.

Bitoku (High Spoon)
Another heavy big game to round out the evening, filled to the brim with yokai and scenic theme. I love how crunchy this game is, the adorable artwork lures you in and then leaves you wondering how 3 hours just passed.

Thats a nice mix in my book, most of them arent too difficult to wrap your head around and each game fits into a guests overarching interests - but still quite chilled out.

And there you have it! Two incredible game nights, united by pizza grease and wildly different vibes. Liam rolls out the invite, the table’s set, the games are stacked, and Amy politely swerves the whole thing to hang out with Rodney Smith instead. Honestly, fair.

What really seals these two game nights though, is the spoon system. This is the smart, self-aware system we all need to budget energy and make sure the night ends on a high, not a yawn. Add in the sheer spread of newer titles they’re pulling off the shelf, and it’s obvious these two don’t let their collections go stale.

Though they've got differing styles, Amy and Liam have the same outcome; thoughtful choices, hot games, and a reminder that the best game nights aren’t about playing everything, they’re about playing the right things, with the right people, while the pizza’s still warm!
